Walk to the Montenvers hotel
Situated at an altitude of 1,913 meters, the Hotel du Montenvers offers breathtaking views of the Mer de Glace. Although the Montenvers can be reached by cogwheel train, there's a more picturesque and authentic option: the ascent on foot.
There are two options: ascent via the Buvette des Caillets or ascent via the Buvette des Mottets
Both trails start near the Montenvers station, cross the Planards area and follow a well-marked route to the summit. They cover a distance of around 5 kilometers and have a vertical drop of around 900 meters. The hike can take between 2 and 3 hours (one way).
Both routes include a refreshment area.
The return journey can be made in the same way, following the same path all the way back to Chamonix. If you prefer a different option, you can take the Montenvers cogwheel train back down.
Caution: Trail inaccessible in winter (avalanche paths).
The traverse from Montenvers to Plan de l'Aiguille du Midi
This hike offers an immersive experience of the valley's breathtaking scenery. You'll discover breathtaking panoramic views and soak up the unique alpine atmosphere.
The traverse from Montenvers follows a well-marked itinerary, and the total distance of the hike is around 6 kilometers, with a positive difference in altitude of around 200 meters. Hiking time varies between 2h30 and 3h.
Once you've reached the Plan de l'Aiguille, enjoy the view, take photos and relax at the refreshment bar. If you're looking for an extra adventure, consider taking the cable car to the top of the Aiguille du Midi for a 360° view of the Alps.
To reach Chamonix, take the cable car (remember to reserve your skip), as the descent is long and recommended for athletes.
The Signal de Forbes from Montenvers
Accessible from the Montenvers site, this Chamonix valley excursion can be discovered via a well-marked hiking itinerary and mainly via a fairly steep and rugged path.
Allow around 1h30 for the ascent, the hike is 3.5km round trip with 310m of ascent.
PLEASE NOTE: before setting off, be sure to check the weather conditions, put on your shoes and bring warm clothes, water and a snack. Please do not hesitate to contact the hotel for further information.
