La Mer de Glace has always drawn climbers from around the world, leaving them enchanted and impressed, nearly all mark their visit with a stop at the Refuge du Montenvers. Covering over 7km, at 6725 feet above sea level, facing the top of Europe - the Mont Blanc summit, this ocean of ice impresses and attracts thousands of visitors and climbers every year.

ALL PATHS LEAD TO THE MER DE GLACE...
The more leisurely adventurer will enjoy the climb from Chamonix aboard the mythical little red cog Montenvers railway, offering an exceptional ride, winding through the forest, in between peaks before reaching the icy giant. As for the adventuresome, hikers, climbers or skiers access the Montenvers in the winter either by the platform of the Aiguille du Midi or the Grands Montets ski or rappeling and crossing the Mer de Glace, to reach the staircase and the access the cable car that leads to the train station.
