Cosmojazz Festival
Chamonix saw the birth of the Cosmojazz festival in the summer of 2010, with the idea of sharing with contemplators from all walks of life an extraordinary human adventure in the discovery of incredible landscapes, dizzying travel and cosmic sounds, all in a friendly atmosphere.
The festival is divided into three parts.
ALTITUDE CONCERTS
High altitude concerts take place during the day on sites chosen by the festival for the majestic scenery and exceptional panoramas they offer to lovers of contemplation. The concerts fit in as naturally as possible and the artists who perform there are programmed according to the location and the music that each natural context inspires the organisers, nourished by the desire to share with visitors a feeling of elevation in the air of the Alps and music.
The concerts are free, but spectators have the opportunity to support the festival by buying souvenirs: bracelets, glasses, T-shirts, etc. As a kind of souvenir and to say "we were there" and "we support".
Access to the sites is generally via the ski lifts and these are subject to a charge. Spectators are requested to get there by counting the necessary travel time, which is advised on the festival website. For each concert at altitude, a "bad weather" solution will be considered. These will be communicated via the festival website and facebook.
At the beginning of the evening, from 5pm, it's time for the concerts in the Chamonix centre! The Parc Couttet becomes the focal point of the festival, hosting the large covered stage from Wednesday 25th to Sunday 29th for concerts from 5pm to 11pm. In this green place in the heart of Chamonix, against the Maison des Artistes, you can also enjoy the Cosmojazz village with bars, small restaurants and the festival merchandising shop.
COSMO JAzz
The spirit of jazz is also about improvised encounters. Every evening, from 10 pm, the Maison des Artistes welcomes the artists of the Cosmo Jam' who invite all the musicians present to jam until the end of the night. An unprecedented opportunity to attend extraordinary encounters.
As for the many bars in the city centre, they join forces with the CosmoJazz Off Festival to highlight the artists of the local scene. The programme will be unveiled on the Cosmojazzfestival.com website and available on the Cosmo Guide shortly before the festival.
UNANNOUNCED INTERVENTIONS
And, throughout the festival, day or night, in altitude or in the city, visitors will be surprised by the IMPROMPTED INTERVENTIONS. Most of the musicians programmed during the day will reside in Chamonix for the duration of the festival. The festival offers them the opportunity to discover the magical places of Chamonix and to intervene with their instruments, wherever and whenever they feel "inspired". The public will be pleasantly surprised, in a cable car cabin, in the carriage of a rack railway or in the middle of an alpine meadow, by the melodies of a flute, the song of a voice, the breath of a brass ensemble or Indian percussion, at a time when they perhaps least expect it.
